Too Much Glue Book Summary

“Too Much Glue” is a fun and imaginative picture book about a young boy named Matty who loves using glue for all of his art projects at school. Despite his teacher’s warnings that too much glue never dries, Matty continues to use excessive amounts of glue on his projects.

One day, during art class, Matty finds the fullest bottles of glue and decides to pour a lake of glue on his latest project before belly-flopping right in the middle and finds himself stuck to the desk. About Children’s Book Author Jason Lefebvre

About Children's Book Author Jason Lefebvre

Jason Lefebvre is a children’s book author who has been writing and publishing for over two decades. He began his writing journey in 1998 with a poorly written story that he struggled to get published, eventually realizing that he had a lot to learn about the business of writing and publishing.

He spent the next few years learning about the industry and honing his skills, eventually coming up with the idea for “Too Much Glue,” a story inspired by a glue spill in his preschool classroom.

Despite receiving numerous rejections, Jason persisted and eventually caught the attention of Shari Dash Greenspan at Flashlight Press, who helped him to edit and polish the story.

After several more years of waiting, “Too Much Glue” was finally published on September 1, 2013, and has received numerous accolades, including:

  • 2016 Montana Treasure State Award
  • 2014 Play On Words PAL Award
  • 2014 Creative Child Magazine Preferred Choice Award

The book was also recommended by Elmer’s Glue and included in Elmer’s World of Glue Free Teaching Guide, a unique instructional unit for kindergartners through fifth graders. Jason Lefebvre’s story, “Too Much Glue,” complements the lesson as it supports the creative use of adhesives in the classroom.

Every Elementary School Art Teacher who wants their students to learn and laugh MUST buy this book!
Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2021

I’m a K-5 Elementary School Art Teacher in NYC, and I have been reading this smart, funny and delightful book for at least five years to nearly ALL of my students! The story is engaging and full of potential rich questions for students. It’s easy to understand, and even keeps you on the edge of your seat. Because it’s been so popular at my school, I’ve been able to make the entire story last up to a full period of 45 minutes, with time for wrap-up and even some drawing. It’s one of those stories that the more you read, the more it gives back. A definite great investment!

Fun and Silly Look at a Real Life Situation
Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2015

This is a comical look at what happens all the time in my first grade classroom. Each year, we must learn how to use glue. How do you open the bottle? How do you apply it without making a puddle? How do you close it so it won’t dry out? Once you’re “Glue Certified,” you may have a bottle of glue.

While adults find this amusing, children find it useful, and we culminate our week by reading this silly story about a boy who got carried away with his glue. By the end of the book, he has so much glue, he himself has become the art project and his parents love it!

I really like the way the author keeps a positive outlook on the whole scenario. The main character is not punished or yelled at or ridiculed, which is very important to me at this age. We are learning, and we discuss what would be smart choices and what would be foolish choices. This book is a really fun and silly way to cap off a serious and valuable lesson.

Super fun book, anytime read and an excellent gift idea
Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2021

Absolutely love this book and I’m nuts about the illustrations. All three of my kids love it (3.5, 4.5, 6.5) and it’s a lot of fun to read, a good “anytime” book to try to sneak in some family reading time (when they eat, getting them in the mood to do a craft) very enjoyable book, great gift idea as well, a nice bookshelf staple 🙂
