I Love You to the Moon and Back Reviews

A fantastic book that tries to explain the unexplainable – the love a parent has for their child.
—Jon Nakapalau

I like this book because it goes through what most babies/young toddlers do in a day. Spending time with the ones they love and goes on kind of a routine of the day that a child can pick up on. Since a child would be able to relate to this book they will really enjoy it as well as it being a special book for a parent to read to a child. An overall great read.

This book was given to my daughter when she was born and it continues to be one of my most favorite books to read to her. (I love catching her trying to read it to herself.)

Book FAQs

What does it mean when someone says I love you to the moon and back?

There are many opinions on the meaning of the phrase, but the main intent appears to be fairly common in that the distance between the moon and the earth is very far. In fact, it’s a 476,000-mile round trip. The saying then indicates that if you love someone as much as the time it would take you to travel such a distance, then you’re expressing a strong affection for that other person.

Is I love you to the moon and back a quote?

The phrase didn’t come into existence as a quote, but it has become popular to the point where it is now used in many books and memes to where you could say it is a quote in the modern world.

The phrase was, for example, used in a popular children’s book ‘Guess How Much I Love You?’ by Sam McBratney, released in 1994. In that children’s book, the father rabbit tells his son that he loves him “to the moon and back,” reassuring him that he loves him so much that it can’t be contained.

When was I love you to the moon and back written?

The children’s book ‘I Love You to the Moon and Back’ by Amelia Hepworth and illustrated by Tim Warnes was published by Tiger Tales on March 3, 2015.

I love you to the moon and back origin?

It’s not exactly clear when the hyperbolic expression emerged, but a character delivers a form of it in Tom Topor’s 1979 play Nuts: “When I was a little girl, I used to say to her, ‘I love you to the moon and down again and around the world and back again.’ And she used to say to me, ‘I love you to the sun and down again and around the stars and back again.’”
