How to Catch an Elf Book Summary

The How to Catch an Elf book, written by Adam Wallace and illustrated by Andy Elkerton, is about some children in homes worldwide who have devised ingenious ways to capture Santa and prove his existence.

However, some kids have realized that Santa is simply too fast for the average trap, so they set more reasonable goals and instead set traps to capture an elf!

The story is told from the perspective of an elf who travels with Santa on Christmas Eve. The little elf describes some of the ingenious traps devised to catch him in the book.

For example, one boy uses an avalanche of food, an eggnog river, and a dinner cannon; however, catching this crafty elf, who is enticed away by candy cane temptations and tinsel traps, is difficult. In the charming Christmas story How to Catch an Elf, the children use their imaginations to devise various ingenious plans to capture the sneaky elf.

Will the kids catch the elf, or will they be disappointed once more and have to settle for the gifts under the tree? Discover the answer in How to Capture an Elf!

“Family tradition to read a Christmas themed book on Christmas Eve. Oldest (2 under 5) picked this one and both were very interested and both were able to stay attentive thru the end. Which is asking a lot of any book on Christmas Eve. I’ve seen the oldest “reading” it since that night and she’s also asked me to read it again to her. Great illustrations and an easy to follow story. I’ve gotten two others in the line (how to catch a unicorn and dinosaur) and both are also favorites.”
